If it happens again, Gail (and everybody) please use the button "back" and then "refresh" and you will recover your draft.
You can repeat it until finally your message be published (bad Internet connection usually cause the "page timed out" problems).
Hopefully it helps.

Jordi
Page-out problems in this case with forums are usually caused by the webserver and not by bad internet connections.
The webserver (actually the database software under the forum) does not see activity from the client's webbrowser for too long, and then the database disconnects that client. You can look in your forum software for a time-out connection setting and make that longer. It can also be called the "keep-alive connection time" or something like that. It is also wise to upgrade the phpbb software. Or better, upgrade to SMF and leave PhpBB... The PhpBB forum software misses lots of (anti-spam) functions. I left PhpBB at strahlen . org 4? years ago already. I can help you better also when you are on SMF. Both Mineralienatlas and Strahlen is on SMF. Mindat is on Phorum.

Thanks Frank,
Long time ago we already applied the longer inactivity timing in the PHPbb options. When I say "bad internet connections" I mean a lot of different causes like for example too much time with not good connection to the server, creating troubles to publish the messages.
Anyway, I will pass your message to our informatics' staff, but probably we can't easily move to SMF, because, as you know, we customized the Forum a lot, so it would be hard to do it again if we move to SMF.
Again, thanks for your help.

Hi Frank,
"and then the database disconnects that client"
=> In fact it doesn't work exactly this way. Under PHP, the connection with the database is automatically closed when the PHP script has been processed. So when you send a query (an update for instance) the connection is reopen. If the delay to process the query is too long such message will be issued. But the origin of the problem can range from database connection to Apache's lag or session expiration and so on...
You are right, you can create persistent database connections through PHP. But it is not a good idea as the number of simultaneous connections at once on the same database is quite low compared with the number of potential visitors of FMF during that same period of time.
