What are your favourite PYRITE localities and habits? My favourites are:
- Several localities in Peru like Huanzala Mine, Mundo Nuevo Mine, Alimon Mine, Racracancha Mine and Quiruvilca Mine
- Rio Marina, Elba Island, Livorno Province, Tuscany, Italy
- Shangbao Mine, Leiyang Co., Hengyang Prefecture, Hunan Province, China
- Spruce claim, Goldmyer Hot Springs, King Co., Washington, USA
- Ambas Aguas, Muro de Aguas, La Rioja, Spain (NOT Navajun ;-))

Wow! Figure 39 has to be one of the strangest and most unique and beautiful pyrites I've ever seen. Some of the other odd ones were also amazing! What a location!....and one I must admit I didn't know about, until now.

I don't have a photo to post, but the pyrite crystals from Merelani, Tanzania, are spectacular crystals.

Greetings to all
Maybe too conservative, but I still love the Navajun ones over the rest of world. For the ones I have, at least.... Rarer ones, I have also. Nicer, well, no to my taste (I am chemist...Odd one, you know....:-)
With best wishes

I have one from Nanisivik Mine and few more, but the best for me is undoubtedly Navajun, Spain. Few of them are replaced by Limonite.

Marco,
I believe the pseudomorph of limonite after pyrite from Farafra Oasis, White Desert, Egypt that you posted is actually limonite replacing marcasite.

Pieces like that are the reason why I consider Peru one of the best countries for pyrite :-)
And Marco, is that stunning Spruce Claim specimen really 20 cm large??? Wow!

You are right, 20 cm looks too much also to me! I made a mistake to digit the numbers, it is 10.0 cm, xls are 4.2x6.7 cm.

Actually I think it is pseudo after real Pyrite. You can easily distinguish Marcasite by its original shape.
Pyrite has an interesting growing pattern called Triaxial cube.
Triaxial cubic Pyrite is not a twinned crystal, but is due to inhibited growth at the edge of the cube. Cube crystal growths only on the faces and not on the edges. Is the same process of Trapiche Emeralds formation.
