From the lead minerals of the south west to the zeolites of Skye, with, I hope a silver or two from Silver Glen. And then there are the Scottish pebbles (agates) that can be collected in many areas (I think we can admire them even if they may not be classified as crystallized by many)

Nice New Glencrieff Baryte. I have found some on the tips but they are all very damaged (so I donated then to the museum for them to sell to visitors!)

43mm tall x 35mm x 25mm
Quartz crystal with partially included Amazonite (microcline) crystal pieces to 15mm. There is a second generation of quartz 1-2mm thickness partially covering the specimen, more lustrous and transparent than the main crystal. From same locality as the amazonite specimen in previous picture. The microcline feldspar is greener than the photo shows. |

Terminated red-cap blue elbaite. The crystal is blue but has appeared a bit green in the photo.

Nice sapphire crystals Ru.
Here's something a bit more 'meaty' - tourmaline var. schorl. Large crystals of schorl are not uncommon in some Scottish pegmatites, but rarely form good euhedral crystals.

Large Schorl crystals with a bit of pegmatite matrix (quartz, pink feldspar and white mica). The specimen has a sawn base. I got this from a guy at the Bakewell Show this year (october), who aquired it by exchange in 2000 - not long after it was 'mined', apparently. |

Another view of the above specimen showing quartz-filled strain cracks in the schorl. Ergo, the quartz crystallised after the toumaline (schorl) which is usually the case in old pegmatites. The schorl crystals in this pegmatite are also bent or curved slightly, which may be because the host granite rock was still moving (emplacement) when (or just after) the pegmatite was formed. |
