I think these are "new" - rulilated quartzes from India. I only saw these in the Cristalli Booth at the Pueblo Show but it seems there should be more around.

SETUP DAY FOR THE TGMS SHOW - a day for sore feet and lots of re-acquaintances. The theme is "World class minerals" and here's a very small sample - much more to come so stay tuned.

Last night was the wonderful dinner hosted by Jim and Gail Spann and Jordi Fabre for young museum professionals and also for FMF members. Special to this event was the establishment and awarding of the John S. White Mineral Legacy Award "For Excellence in Mineral Education". And the first recipient was of course, John White, who was greeted with a standing ovation.
This is always a wonderful evening for all invited and it was a bit disappointing that our FMF fearless leader Jordi could not attend - but he left his mark by having a "regrets and thanks you" note distributed at the event.

Ok - I spent a bit of time touring around the TGMS Show focusing on the display cases - with the theme "World Class Minerals" and keeping in mind the INCREDIBLE display cases at last year's show, I was really looking forward to even better displays.
Well, although there are indeed some truly world class displays, I would use the term "a bit underwhelming" to describe the display cases - but maybe that's just "the jaded me" coming out after seeing the cases from last year's show.
I'll post a few photos now and get back later with more - especially the case put in by Jim and Gail Spann which takes about an hour to fully absorb, photo and do justice to.

Let me try to help from Barcelona...
Before to publish the photos of the Party that gently Joaquim Callén, Chris Gobin and Gail have sent to me, let me reconnect with the recent past. So, the party for Mineralogical Record that Gail and Jim Spann generously offer every year.

I have read (Bob Kerr) that in the Party John White got a new trophy, the "Mineral Legacy Award" and that will even have continuity since every year someone who stands out in Mineralogical Education will be awarded.
Something of this tells me something, but since I haven't been to the Party, I'm sure I have nothing to do with it... 🤣
Congratulations Master!

|

I also have read (Bob Kerr again) that I was not in the Party of which I am co-sponsor! what a shame! 😁
The life is complex and within its multiple paths I now try to walk through different avenues (but without forgetting the main road)
This is what I explained before the Party to my dear FMF guests:
The years pass for everyone and also for me. I have been going to the Tucson Show for more than 30 years and every year I have been there for more than three weeks so in total I have spent almost three years of my life there and that is a lot of time! Tucson is too long and I have decided to make it shorter for me.
Some years ago I already stopped exhibiting there and after much thought I have also decided to spend less time there from now. As the beginning of the Show is the most important moment for me to find the new discoveries and enjoy the excitement of the beginning if I do not want to be so long I have no choice than leave Tucson before the Main Show and unfortunately this affects the Party, which I will not be able to attend anymore. However, and thanks to the kindness of Gail and Jim Spann, the "FMF Party" will go ahead together with the "Mineral Museum Professionals Party", so everything will remain the same, but without me, which in fact can somehow be a big advantage!
During the Party Gail and Jim will distribute a note from me and that's it, that will be my presence at this year's Party, which I am still co-organizing and in which I will continue to be present from the heart.
Thanks and a lot of hugs.
Jordi

Dear Jordi,
Gwen and I always had a great time whenever we were able to attend the FMF Party. We wish to thank you and Gail and Jim for all the great things you have done (and continue to do) for the mineral collecting hobby and the education and knowledge we picked up along the way.
Sincerely,
Don Lum

As usual there were numerous terrific display cases at this year's TGMS Show - a fairly significant lowering in the quality from last year but still lots of excellent cases. I'll try to summarize the ones that really caught my eye and hopefully others members will add to this.
The first is what at first glance is a boring case of dark fluorites - then the back lights are turned on (on automatic cycle). Quite impressive.
more to follow.

Another terrific case was submitted by the Arizona Mineral Minions. Disbursed throughout the case were miniature MR cover photos of some of the specimens in the case - these were surrounded by even better and famous pieces. Gotta love Les Presmyk's copper spray of spinel twins.

Every year Scott Rudolf presents a case of his world class minerals and 2020 was no exception. Note in particular the "Rabbit" copper from MI, the HUGE pyromorphite from Bad Ems and also the terrific Brandberg scepter on matrix.
