Totally overwhelmed by the magnitude of the move that Tucson Show represents to me, I open this thread with an image of my suitcases, ready to follow me tomorrow, and one of the novelties of this year: nice Chinese Adamite (apparently copper rich) with maybe another related mineral. They are being analyzed at this time, when I have the final results of the analysis I will publish it here.
More to come (on Thursday, tomorrow I will be on trip)....

Safe and happy travels to you, Jordi! I'll look forward to seeing you at the Inn Suites (aka Hotel Tucson City Center) and at Casa Vicente.
P.S., your photo of the cuprian adamite looks like a view of the canyon cliffs in some Martian plateau, hosting some huge, bright green alien growth, perhaps inorganic or perhaps some new life form.
Cheers, Pete

Just arrived, I had the chance to take an overview at the whole shows and, as far as I know, one of the few novelties is a new locality in Bolivia for Phosphophyllites.
Although not totally new, because Alfredo Petrov on the past Tucson 2009, brought few new Phosphophyllites from an obscure new deposit in Bolivia, this year Alfredo, Luis Miguel Fernández and few others dealers with minor stuff, have this new Phosphophyllites, as well as Bryan Kosnar-Rob Lavinsky (or at least they had, they are not exhibiting yet)
Alfredo Petrov was the first dealer displaying this material and kindly he has written this fine descriptive text:
"The new phosphophyllite find in Bolivia, first discovered near the end of 2008, produces steeply pointed crystals, almost acicular, mostly "swallowtail" twins. But unfortunately they never reach the quality of the old classic material from Cerro Rico, being a paler green colour, with little luster and no transparency. At least 250 specimens were dug by various miners during the course of 2009, and probably there will still be more coming in 2010.
The locality is in the Colavi-Machacamarca mining district, about 60 km NE from Cerro Rico, city of Potosi (Bolivia's more famous phosphophyllite locality). Geologically, the two occurrences are completely unrelated, with the classic Cerro Rico specimens coming from hydrothermal sulphide veins in an altered volcanic stock, whereas the new find is hosted in a brecciated red mudstone! Readers will note the similarity to the matrix of the Tomokoni mine vivianite specimens that were produced in 2005-2007. Determining the exact mine of origin within the Machacamarca mining district is still difficult, as the local sellers are secretive about it. At first I was told "Torotoro", a town located a few hundred kilometers north of the real locality; later another miner claimed they were from the Infiernillos mine. The latest locality name incarnation is the Taja Lapis adit of the Wayllani mine. Take your pick.
Considering that phosphophyllite is not a common mineral anywhere in the world, it seems unfair that Nature put two unrelated phosphophyllite localities only 60 km apart in Bolivia!"
As soon as we can we will publish photos of them.
More to come...

Have a great time down there, Jordi!
I just looked at the Univ. of Ariz. webcam, it looks like a great sunny day in Tucson with a few scattered clouds. Anyone who wants to check it and see what the weather's like in Tucson (hope there aren't too many more torrential rainstorm systems during the show) take a look at

Tucson 01/30/2010
Today the Show officially started. A lot of visitors (parking lots full) and some dealers doing really well and others so,so, as always...;-)
As far as I know not major novelties appear, so the more noticiable event was the major display of worldclass Milpillas material offered in a tent outside the entry of the InnSuites by the Mexican Jesús Valenzuela, as well as the continuation of the sell of the Ernie Schlichter's collection, that already started in Springfield Show. Don & Gloria Olson are dealing with it in his room #122 in the InnSuites. Ernie Schlichter had a marvelous personality, I miss him a lot ( https://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=799 ), luckily his collection is now available for all collectors through Don and Gloria. I'm sure if Ernie could see us, would be happy seeing people appreciate so much the minerals of his collection.
PS: The artifacts and books of Ernie are offered by Rock of Ages in his rooms 318-319 InnSuites (aka Hotel Tucson City Center)

Forgive me but as tomorrow Tuesday we will open the room, today I was locked all day preparing everything and except for a small moment when the light fall down in the room due the coffee-making machine and outside I met several people, including our two FMF moderators John S. White and Peter Megaw, the rest of the time I was completely isolated, so until tomorrow I can't explain anything else. Sorry...;-)

With the room already opened, I will have more time and chances (if my Internet connection permit it) to offer more complete chronicles.
We already have photos of the new Phosphophyllites and also images of something really special that John Cesar (2010 chairman for the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show™) share with us yesterday, a fabulous Wulfenite from Old Yuma Mine from his collection. We still need some time more to prepare it, please stay tuned.

Will Larson, the son of Bill Larson is building currently a very interesting collection of one of the most unknown countries in terms of mineralogy: Japan.
Although the Japanese collectors are numerous and Japanese dealers attend frequently the Shows, the mineralogy of this country remains ignored for many occidental collectors.
I'm a little bit familiar with Japanese minerals due the good relationship that Folch's collection maintained with this country, so I was delighted to see the exhibit of Will Larson in the Westward Look (just for one day, Friday)

Now events are accelerated. I will fly back to Spain the Saturday and I have only tonight and tomorrow to close all things and prepare my depart. It means that I should put aside for a while these posts, until the final conclusions that I will write when I'll be in Barcelona.
On the meantime today I will download some photos we did in the Main Show, and tomorrow I will download some photos of my favorite specimens from the displays. I have many more of these favorites, but tomorrow I can publish just a few, so the rest will be published in a few days, together with my final conclusions.
