He he, your backyard looks pretty similar to ours, rocks, rocks and more rocks; and then I often have to clean those my wife take out too. You must come and visit me so we can go rock hunting. I know many places.

Several prehnites collected awhile ago at the former O&G quarry in Southbury CT.
Description: |
Prehnite Southbury, New Haven County, Connecticut, USA 20 cm This 20 cm. vesicle was one of hundreds I walked over, at twilight, in a blast pile. Of course I didn't know what I had until I broke it open. To late, the pile was gone the next day. |

FYI, fossil bird feathers (and whole birds) occasionally are found in the Florissant (central Colorado) and the Green River formations, as well. They're Eocene in age.

Hi Vic!
According to my calendar such date belongs to the near future. Do you mean you plan to collect that specimen a month from now?

Got your attention, didn't it? Tobi, let me wrap a newspaper around my head and consult my crystal ball. Hmmm, say's it's to soon to tell.

One for all you slag lovers out there. This sample of lechatelierite, was collected at the site of a power line fall, on Quaddick Town Farm Road, Thompson, CT.. Fingers for scale. The outer shell is composed of asphalt grading towards the center of fused sand and pebbles to form this rather large fulgurite.
Mineral: | fulgurite |

Much of my collection images are focused on my field collecting and much of my field collecting was and is centered in the Northeast, USA. My first collecting epiphany involved the traprock found in Western Massachusetts. I've spent many hours in quiet contemplation looking across the trap exposures and quarries of the great basalt flows of the East Coast. In quiet contemplation because of the scarcity of material to actually collect. The mineralization at the East Mountain Lane location is pretty much centered along a major fault and associated brecciations, that run North-South. Almost no gas pockets, like the ones common in the Southbury, CT basalt, are to be found. With fine collecting opportunities few, I reflect on the other obstacles that present them selves to the field collector of the Holyoke Traps, one of which I present here for your edification. Thank you for your time.

Interesting.
As a long time field collector here in Indiana, years ago I had the local sheriff's office call me and firmly ask me not to further trespass onto a residential construction site. Apparently one of the contractor's employees got my auto license number while I was collecting on the private construction property.
I never went back there. Shame, there were some great Indiana barytes at that location; now just houses! Bob
