Thanks Ryan, we had a MAD meeting tonight and Karl showed some of YOUR photos for the Smale party highlights.
So, I got to enjoy your photgraphic work too!

Gail and Jim,
congratulations on a stellar effort both putting on the amazing displays at Springfield and also sharing your photos of your epoch journey. A special thanks especially from all those collectors who like myself were unable to attend. It felt like we were riding along aside the two of you all the way.
I realise that you have a huge task ahead of you reinstalling the collection and reclaiming back your dining room, but if it at all possible could you post some more photo's especially of your Australian case please.
Thank you again
Regards
Jon and the girls.

Oh Hello Jon!
I sure will, the professional photos will be arriving soon, of each case, and I will be sure to post them on here.
I still have to show the labeling system we had on the back of each case, in close up detail as well.
Jim bought me a beautiful Hematite and Andradite miniature ,while in Springfield, for my (our) hematite collection and presented that to me so I got to take it to the Mineralogical Association of Dallas meeting tonight. It will be a keepsake from the year of the "exhibit" and I will cherish it greatly. We did manage to pick up a few new minerals while there, but had very little time to go browse and shop. My hopes are that others might post some photos of what they saw, if allowed to take photos. This is one of the rare shows that won't let you photograph without permission, in writing, from the dealers. Luckily I happen to know most of them and took photos while announcing that I would be posting on line...but none of their minerals.
We had them take down the NO PHOTOS sign in the exhibits area, we don't mind people taking photos of our minerals. If it will give them pleasure to look at minerals they found appealing, well...all the better!
Hugs to your sweet daughters, your wife and...of course, yourself!

Fabulous job Gail!.
Not thanks to me, but thanks to you and Jim. I think that it is the first time where a super exhibition, as yours, be described with photos from the start to the end. I'm so proud that FMF host this wonderful history!
Also, it shows to everybody how hard it is, and what precious gift is to have the chance to see a display of these world class specimens. People maybe suppose that those exhibits are a kind of glamorous party from rich people, but as your reportage shows so well, it is an enormous effort, full of big risks, done as an act of love.
THANKS GAIL, THANKS JIM!

Gail,
Glad everyone could see the Smale photos, although I profess not to be Jeff Scovil in my photographing abilities.
Again, great exhibits, and hope to see you in Denver.

Wayne Corwin filmed us setting up our minerals and here is link to that thread. He actually did a great job and held the camera steady. I often forgot he was holding it.
Enjoy!

Due to my concern for lack of bicycling time and desire to go to the Tour de France next year I think I shall have to transport our minerals in this from now on. Training AND hauling minerals, what more could a girl ask for???? No more of those huge RVs!
tee hee.

Gail,
you will need a parallel tandem seat for the ArVycycle, so that Jim can share the experience and provide the overdrive for those long hill climbs.
Thanks for showing the Aussie pieces, it is great to see they are appreciated, the Yowah is especially nice
Regards

We are still putting minerals in newly cleaned cabinets, there are flats everywhere as we remove minerals, take out padding and insert in garbage bags, put boxes in flats after removing minerals and bagging the flats for storage.
Our enthusiasm for doing this job isn't quite up to par since we are still recalling all that work we just did.
But, we have company arriving tomorrow night, so this is the impetus to get on the ball and get this place in tip top shape! I am cracking the whip on myself and making headway today.
I will say this, you see your minerals again...with clarity, when you put them in different cabinets and rearrange things. I have seen things I have forgotten we owned.
So there is always a silver lining!

We have been doing our best to put minerals back in cases due to a visit from the artist, Christian Quintin, coming to visit. I love this photo of him as he describes this beryl as exquisite and his favourite in our collection.
Knock on wood, we haven't had a single bit of damage from the transport and handling of our minerals yet!

Gail. That's a good picture of Jim. You can see the enjoyment in his face as he looks at your (yall's) minerals. Nice photo, and welcome home and of course job well done!!!

Incredibly well documented report of your preparations, feelings, exhibit, people, return.
You are amazing friends, full of energy, friendliness and love to minerals and life!
Thank you so much for sharing it!

Thank you Gentlemen. Am hoping it might inspire others to see that there is "fun" even in a huge undertaking such as this.

We thought, since not quite everything is put back in cabinets, that we would have Jeff Scovl photograph a few of our pieces for us.
Jim has been incredible at putting the minerals away this past few days, I applaud his energy!
He said "I think putting the minerals back is a more daunting task than assembling them for the show."
I concur!
Mind you, Jeff does his work in my dining room, so there goes the use of it again!
